Losing weight from eating just pasta
A few years back I studied abroad in Italy for three months. I ate pasta daily (When in Italy do as the Italians do, right). My favorite preparation was of course spaghetti, tomato sauce and fresh grated parmesan cheese. To my surprise when I returned home I was 15 lbs lighter. This newly found information, prompted me to do some research.
So here is the logic, behind my ability to not only avoid gaining weight , but my astonishing weight loss. Italians cook their pasta correctly, al dente. Which basically means cooked firm to the bite. Pasta naturally has a low glycemic index and when cooked correctly you can keep your blood sugars more stable. When pasta is overcooked the glycemic index is raised and accelerates starch gelatinization.
I know that you have heard of or at least tried throwing a strand of spaghetti on a wall to test if it was cooked through. Truth is this test is completely inaccurate, and your pasta has reach the point of no return when is sticks to your walls.
I suggest cooking your pasta according to the instructions, on the box. I would love to give you a standard time, but the fact of the matter is even the most popular pasta (spaghetti) come in difference sizes.
Another tip to prevent from eating over cooked pasta, cook only what you are going to consume, if possible. I like storing my pasta in glass jars for esthetic reason, and it is way nicer to have a resealable jar, Than having half empty boxes of pasta in your pantry. Reheated pasta just Isn't the same. But if you must, I would completely cool down the pasta with cold water and drizzle with extra virgin olive oil so they don't stick. And I suggest storing sauce separately. For your lunch, or significant other that may be come late from work that evening.
